At the Tecumseh Chiropractic Center, we are proud of the versatility of our healthcare providers. While most people think about chiropractors in terms of helping with back injuries and ailments, we can do so much more. One area of expertise actually comes in the form of orthotics. Often, people come to us with back pain and, after a thorough visit, we discover the problem is actually due to issues related to the feet. Then, orthotics can help. We are here to make sure that everyone in the Tecumseh area understands how orthotics work and the benefits they can provide.
How Orthotics Work
For those who might not know, orthotics are inserts that are placed in the shoes. These are typically designed to replace whatever insole is already present in the shoe. This orthotics can be designed to fit nearly any shoe. This makes them ideal for dress shoes, running shoes, tennis shoes, and more.
When this orthotics are placed in the shoe, they provide added support to the feet. Often, those who use orthotics have flat feet. Without any arch support, a tremendous shock is transmitted from the feet up into the knees, ankles, hips, and back. This can lead to pain in all of those places. When orthotics are placed in the shoes, an arch is made in the feet. This increases the amount of support that is provided to not only the feet but the rest of the body as well.
Breaking in Orthotics
When someone comes to see us at Tecumseh Chiropractic Center for orthotics, we are going to tell people to break them in first. This means that the orthotics should be worn for only a few hours per day on the first day. Then, this can increase a few hours each day until they are able to be worn the entire day. Trying to wear them 24 hours per day on the first day is going to cause the top of the foot to feel sore. Also, try not to run in orthotics on the first day either. The same problem will result.
